Awkwafina
American musician and actor Awkwafina began her career with hilarious hip-hop tracks that addressed racial identity and sexuality with boldly comedic perspective before broadening her reach to Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese Korean immigrants living from Forest Hills Queens. Her first experience with music came from the trumpet. She also received Jazz and classical training before when she began to explore hip-hop as a teenager. Concentrating on school she majored in journalism, and women's studies, and was studying Mandarin in Beijing for a stint. However, it wasn't until she graduated when she decided to turn her attention towards music. In 2012, My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet hit and was included in her debut LP Yellow Ranger. On the album, there also were viral songs like Queef (body-positive) and NYC Bitche$1. This track was directly linked to another project, Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide, which was published in the year 2015. Apart from being a published author, her other career was as a performer. Alongside early TV shows such as Girl Code and Tawk she was also featured in movies like Neighbors 2 Storks as well as Bad Rap. In the year 2018, she was offered several notable parts, including Dude Ocean 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. The EP was released in June.
